Welcome to Social Hour, our new blog series where we will introduce you to members of the Socialix community. Writers, photographers, artists, videographers and social media enthusiasts will share their social media and blogging journeys.
During our latest Social Hour, we connected with Krystin Lee, founder of lifestyle blog Suburban Faux-Pas . Krystin’s lifestyle blog shares advice and her current inspirations across the beauty, style and decor facets of her life. We were eager to learn more about how Krystin manages her blog with a full-time job and continually finds new inspiration for content.
Do you remember writing your first blog post? What was it about?
Vaguely… but I remember doing a lot of shoots in my backyard when everything started out. I didn’t have the guts to stand in front of people and have my picture taken!
Do you have a set schedule for managing your blogs and social media feeds? Any social media productivity tips to share?
Since Adam (husband and photographer) and I both work full time, we have to shoot our 3 looks for the week ahead on the weekend. I’ll then spend Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evening editing posts for that same week. I snap Instagram pics when I can and try to have an arsenal of pictures since being caught at the office can often led to no content for Instagram.
What is the first social media network you check in the morning?
If you could only have one app on your phone, what would it be?
That’s a tough one! I’d probably say Instagram. I love the visual strategy so many users have put into their accounts and it’s a great way to keep in touch with my grandma 😉
What are some of your favorite Instagram accounts right now?
How do you connect with your readers?
Whether it’s email, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Reader Comments or a casual run in – I connect with my readers on every platform. I may not be as good on Instagram but will answer any other platform within a few hours 😉
How do you find inspiration for new content?
Street style, Tumbler, Pinterest, late night Instagram scrolling and travelling.
What has been your most memorable post to date?
We’re headed to St. Maarten in collaboration with a brand and I’m OH SO excited for it. Travel has always been a big part of our lives and I’m excited to incorporate more of this into our content. (You can check out Krystin’s looks from her recent trip to St. Maarten here!)
What is your favorite part of running Suburban Faux-Pas?
Aside from getting to play dress up in the latest and greatest, I love the fellowship amongst bloggers and the ability to connect with brands that you may have never thought possible. This project never ceases to amaze me and constantly leaves me on high.
What is your least favorite part of running Suburban Faux-Pas?
I think the trickiest part is time management. Gone are the days of weekends spent doing nothing, meetings are often held before or after work or week nights are often promised to event previews or dinners with brands, so having ‘me’ time is often far and in between.
Is there one area of your blog or social media accounts that you’d really like to focus on this year?
I definitely think more travel-focused tips would be ideal, and sharing more of my beauty routine.
What’s your most used emoji?
Definitely the two hands up! Obsessed!
