Tomorrow is the day marketers have been dreading for the past few weeks and, quite possibly, since Instagram’s inception. Yes, tomorrow is the day Instagram will officially evolve into an algorithm-based platform. We dissected how this change will impact Instagram engagement in our recent blog post Instagram Announces Algorithmic Updates.
This new algorithm means that Instagram will operate similarly to Facebook — users will be fed posts that the algorithm deems to be most relevant or important to them. If your followers regularly like or comment on your posts, they will likely still see the majority of the content you post on the platform. However, if many of your followers enjoy your content in a more passive manner, they may miss out on many of your future posts. To combat this, you can ask your followers to turn on your post notification feature to ensure that they never miss a photo or video.
Even if your followers do not choose to turn this notification on, all is not lost. However, you may have to work harder to make your way into their feeds on a consistent basis. Posting high quality images that resonate with their interests and compel them to engage is the best way maintain Instagram engagement.
